Northforker celebrates the ‘Best of the North Fork’

The North Fork has certainly been celebrated many times in recent years.

It’s not uncommon for a national publication to refer to it as a “hot new place” or for a local beach or winery to serve as the setting for a film or television crew. The North Fork is popular, and for good reason.

Perhaps no one celebrates the North Fork as much as our colleagues at Northforker. This month, the employees of our sister lifestyle publication spilled the beans in all of their favorite places and published a “Best of the North Fork” issue. It has everything from top restaurants and wineries to beaches and parks, as well as some of the people who make these places great.

“The North Fork may be small in landmass, but it is powerful in its culture of excellence,” Northforker editorial director Sara Austin wrote in her note for the July issue.

The magazine featured profiles of some of the staff’s favorite grocers and artisans, personal memories of first encounters with esteemed restaurants and shops, and awards in dozens of categories.

Ultimately, employees selected half a dozen or more “best of” recipients in 58 categories, which Ms. Austin described as “too difficult” to narrow down to individual winners.

“Ask your own family to agree on the best farm stall or taco, for example, and see how quickly a feud breaks out,” she wrote. “But mostly it felt like spreading love was the natural approach after this difficult year.”

Now the Northforker team is handing things off to readers with one vote for the Readers Choice Award. They have made their best of lists public and readers can register and vote for the “best of” in each category.
