(KVEO) – The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) is providing additional funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food services for August.

Funding will amount to approximately $ 267 million as the state continues its response to the pandemic, according to a press release from Governor Greg Abbott.

HHSC received federal approval to extend the amount of SNAP recipients based on family size. SNAP households will receive at least $ 95 in emergency grants, the press release said.

The August emergency grants are on top of more than $ 3.9 billion in benefits granted to Texans since April 2020.

Recipients will continue to receive a 15% increase in their overall benefits that will last until September. The increase and the additional emergency allotment amount should be available in the recipient accounts by the end of the month.
