UT Austin Arts and Humanities Ranked Among Best in the World

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Austin is # 5 among US public universities, # 17 in the US, and # 50 in the world for Education in the Arts, according to the 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings and humanities.
More than 600 universities from around the world have been included in the Times Higher Education Ranking this year. The list highlights universities that are leaders in the following disciplines: the arts, performing arts, design, languages, literature, linguistics, history, philosophy, theology, architecture, and archeology.
A number of factors were considered, including teaching, research, citations, international perspectives, and industry income.
“We are proud that the incredible work and influence of creative and academic research by our faculty and our students has been recognized in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings,” said Ramón H. Rivera-Servera, Dean of the College of Fine Arts. “These rankings confirm what we already know – that our students receive world-class arts and humanities education at the University of Texas at Austin.”
Technology-oriented universities saw a widespread increase in the 2022 ranking, possibly suggesting an increase in collaboration between the two disciplines. Interdisciplinary study and research are priorities for arts and humanities at UT Austin, including the School of Architecture.
“With disciplines encompassing all scales of the built environment, the UT School of Architecture provides students with an environment that combines individual exploration with collaborative problem solving to strengthen their ability to plan, design, and change the world around us to make an impact, ”said Michelle Addington, dean of the Faculty of Architecture. “We never lose sight of the fact that the primary purpose of our disciplines is to serve the public through our professions, and over the years we have developed a strong curriculum that encourages dialogue, interdisciplinary collaboration, risk-taking and hands-on learning to enhance our Students and our school have a competitive advantage. “
UT Austin is the only university in Texas listed in the global top 50 for arts and humanities. Rice University and Texas A&M University range from 201-250.
“This is a wonderful endorsement of the value of arts and humanities at UT Austin,” said Ann Stevens, dean of the College of Liberal Arts. “Our faculty, staff and students are at the heart of what makes the university and the city of Austin such a dynamic and exciting place.”
This is just one of several current rankings that recognize the university’s academic and scientific strengths. The university was ranked 38th among all US universities in the latest US News & World Report undergraduate rankings. Earlier this year, the Times Higher Education World University Ranking placed UT Austin 47th in the world and 7th among US public universities.
