The home game: Austin’s Major League Soccer team, Austin FC, will play their very first home game against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, June 19 at Q2 Stadium. The Chronicle has put everything you need to know about the stadium, game, and fandom in a dedicated insert. Listen.

Austin Juneteenth: This year, June 19th, Juneteenth is recognized as an official city holiday for the first time. Some city government offices and facilities will be closed on Friday June 18, including the Austin Public Library branches and the Austin Animal Center. See Community Lists for Juneteenth Events.

Vote Another Day: After hours of public comment, Travis County Commissioners Court voted on Tuesday June 15 to postpone a vote on the draft contract for a new women’s prison facility in the Travis County Correctional Complex indefinitely until November 15. Submit a report on the 2015-16 Needs Assessment Update and Master Plan for Travis County Prison Facilities on August 8th. Continue reading.

PUD yes! The city council approved the proposed unit development (PUD) for the zoning of the former Brackenridge Hospital Campus Downtown, a key component of Austin’s burgeoning health and medical innovation district. The 14-acre site is owned by Central Health, the tax-funded agency that provides low-income or uninsured residents with access to health care.

There’s no place like AISD: Austin ISD is hosting district-wide enrollment clinics through June 24th where families can get help enrolling their child on any campus or class for the 2021-22 school year. The clinics are part of Operation Reconnect, AISD’s campaign to reconnect with unenrolled students.

Dems of the Round Table: State Representative Gina Hinojosa, D-Austin, was part of a contingency of Texas Democratic lawmakers who met with Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House this week to discuss voting rights. Following the defeat of the Senate 7 election suppression bill last month, the Texas Democrats pushed for a state voting bill to be passed.

The Parks Ahead: The Austin Parks & Recreation Department won the American Planning Association’s 2021 National Planning Excellence Award for its Our Parks, Our Future Long-Range Plan, which leads the development of Austin’s parking system.

Fighting Hunger Together Capital Metro has delivered 1 million meals with community partners as part of its food delivery program. Public transport started the program at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to deliver food and relief supplies to those in need.
