Four Texas students competing in spelling bee finals

DALLAS – Four Texas students are on their way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee finals.
The finals will take place on Thursday, July 8th at 7 p.m. at the ESPN complex near Orlando, Florida. It also airs on ESPN2.
Vivinsha Veduru, an 11-year-old from Fort Worth, Texas, is a fifth grader from Bear Creek Intermediate School. According to her bio, she is an avid reader and her favorite authors are CS Lewis, Roald Dahl, JK Rowling and Chris Colfer. She enjoys playing the piano, building Lego structures and playing tennis. Veduru loves to travel and experience different cultures. She has been a state member of the National Piano Guild Auditions for two years. She wants to pursue a career in the STEM field to raise awareness about global warming.
12-year-old Dhroov Bharatia is in 7th grade at Wilson Middle School in the Plano School District. His biography describes him as a “multipotentialite” and has a wide range of interests that include literature, history, math, science, and computer technology. His curious nature and passion have earned him numerous awards at regional science fairs as well as regional band, speech, debate and robotics competitions. He loves playing music and composing, and you can’t stop him from playing basketball.
Vihaan Sibal is 12 years old from Waco, Texas and attends the River Valley Intermediate School. He has been playing tennis since he was six, trains three to four times a week and will play for his middle school team from next year. Sibal also enjoys listening to music and his favorite artists are The Weeknd, Drake and Travis Scott. He is an animal lover and has two dogs and a cat. Before that, he took part in competitions in 2018 and finished 42nd place.
Akshainie Kamma is a 13-year-old student at Walsh Middle School in Austin, Texas. She spends much of her free time listening to music and dancing. She served on her student council for three years and this year applied to the National Junior Honor Society. In addition, after passing the PSAT in the sixth grade, she received the degree “Testing with Distinction”. Kamma had previously competed in 2019 and finished 51st.
Last year the spelling bee was canceled due to COVID-19. It was the first cancellation since World War II.
