AUSTIN (KXAN) – Republican governor candidate Allen West says x-rays show he has “COVID pneumonia” after his wife was diagnosed with COVID-19 on Friday. West says his wife was fully vaccinated against COVID-19, but he wasn’t.

According to a Facebook post on West’s page, both were treated with infusion therapy with monoclonal antibodies.

“I want to thank you all for your prayers,” says the latest post on West’s website. “I have concerns about my oxygen saturation, which is 89 and should be 95,” the post continues. “My chest x-rays show COVID pneumonia, not serious. I’m probably going to be hospitalized. “

A post earlier in the day said West has “a low fever and mild body aches” and “out of concern for public health” is suspending his personal events.

The post also states that he was taking ivermectin, which has requested an immediate end by the FDA and the American Medical Association, and hydroxychloroquine. The FDA has warned against using hydroxychloroquine for COVID-19 outside of the hospital or clinical trial due to the risk of heart problems.

Ivermectin is used to treat parasites in animals and sometimes humans, but it’s not an antiviral and, more importantly, it’s not approved by the Food and Drug Administration for COVID-19 treatment. It can be taken topically or orally if prescribed by a doctor for the intended use, otherwise possible side effects could be serious, including neurological disorders, seizures, coma, and even death.

Ivermectin use is increasing, although there is no evidence to treat COVID-19 – why are people still taking it?

Medical experts and the CDC say there is no data to support the benefits of taking ivermectin for COVID-19.

The post on West goes on to say that his wife Angela has received the COVID-19 vaccine and a flu shot in the past, but West has not received his COVID-19 vaccine.

“LTC West has publicly stated that he supports individual choice and this is reflected in his own family,” the post reads. “Both are wished for a speedy recovery, as well as others dealing with this health problem.”

Cecilia and I send all the best to Allen and Angela.

You are in our prayers. Get well.
