Austin Council Picks Design-Build to Rehab Community Court 8th St. Municipal Building

Austin (Travis County) —The city council decided on the design-build method on Thursday Municipal Court 8th Street Municipal Building renovation.
To fund the project, the city council also approved a $ 27 million increase in funding for the 48,900 square feet to renovate.
The scope of work includes rapid renovations on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors including the building infrastructure in the adjacent driveway. The project schedule stipulates that Community Court in downtown Austin (DACC) Program until August 2023.
The project also provides additional space for other city workers.
The old parish building in the Art Moderne style was originally built in 1907 and expanded in 1938. It’s located at 124 W. 8th Street.
The city estimates the project will cost $ 25,750,000. Construction is expected to start in September 2022.
The city will set corporate goals for minorities and women before launching a call for tenders for the project.
