Austin (Travis County) The city has completed its community engagement process for pool renovation in Givens District Park in East Austin, and construction is scheduled to begin in early 2023.

This year, a number of citizens’ initiatives took place to promote the Givens Aquatic Facility Renovation Project.

Built in 1958 and named after 1962 Dr. Everett H. Givens– a WWI veteran and one of the city’s first black dentists – the pool closed in 2019.

The renovation of the pool includes a new multi-purpose room, a redesigned men’s and women’s toilet, a new lifeguard and first aid station, and a family toilet.

The project is also expected to provide more open and lap swimming space, as well as more lawn area. The immersion fountain is preserved along with the entrance to the building.

The estimated cost of the redevelopment is $ 14 million.

The project team consists of Greg Houston with Marmon Mok architecture, from San Antonio, David Neugebauer with ECM International, Inc. will be the project manager and the site manager is at risk Gary Miller with the Austin office of Flintco, LLC.
