The animal shelter is now looking for willing adoptive and foster families.
AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Humane Society (AHS) welcomed dozens of kittens and dogs to their shelter on Thursday afternoon.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) transported the animals from Louisiana in response to Hurricane Ida.
“You will come here and we will be able to examine you medically,
Make sure they are up to date on all of their vaccines, and then they will
be available for adoption, “said Katie Kennedy, director of
Communication for the Austin Humane Society.
AHS received a transfer of animals before and after Ida reached the country. With the relocation on Thursday, more than 100 new animals call Austin their home.
“Most of the animals that came to us before are already
was adopted, “said Kennedy.” There are a few who needed a little …
medical care, and so they get out of here before they’re made available. ”
The animals that come to AHS are animal shelter, they are not their own animals and are moved from one shelter to another.
AHS welcomed 250 animals, including dogs, cats and squirrels, after Hurricane Laura last year.
“We brought [the squirrels] and then they were rushed to Austin Wildlife Rescue to look after them, “Kennedy said.” Moving animals to other shelters helps make room in [affected] Shelters so they can focus on providing direct disaster relief to animals that they have to shelter due to storms and displacement. “
A donation to AHS helps animals with food, shelter and vaccinations.
“If you are thinking about caring for it, it is another way of helping in situations like this. … If we can create more space in our shelter, if we have to take in more animals, [fostering] really helps us, “said Kennedy.
AHS will be charging an adoption fee of $ 25 October 4-10. This includes dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies.
“If you’ve been considering adoption, now is the time and it will be
help these animals we get on, “said Kennedy.
