AUSTIN (KXAN) – It’s weekend two of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and some local Austin businesses are saying it’s bringing a much-needed boost to Barton Springs Road.

ACL visitors like Mia Beacom and Maranda King are committed to exploring Austin restaurants and shops.

So far, only 4 COVID-19 cases have been traced back to the first ACL weekend

“Local food is amazing; I tried to go through all of the food trucks, ”King said.

Sales at Baby Acapulco this weekend have more than doubled since last weekend. Cindy Frost, Assistant General Manager, says the festival’s presence continues to prepare her for a successful quarter.

“This weekend, since it’s the last weekend, we have more people coming out,” said Frost. “I think ACL really helped. It opens up to a lot of people who have never heard of Baby A. “

The wider impact can also be felt across the city of Austin.

“This month of October is a great start to the fiscal year,” said Tom Noonan, President and CEO of Visit Austin. “The numbers in 2021 in terms of hotel occupancy and hotel prices, both in the city center and across the city, are higher in 2021 than in 2019.”

Noonan says the tourism industry is experiencing heavy weekends thanks to the return of festivals and some conventions, but more traffic needs to come during the week.

“We won’t get this hotel tax back in full until the meeting and convention platform is back Monday through Thursday and those festivals are back,” Noonan said. “This is important to Austinites because the hotel tax funds so many arts organizations, so much of the heritage, and we need to get this collection back.”
