Austin’s hottest food + music fest carves out dates for smokin’ return

Austin meat master Aaron Franklin’s famous annual food and music experience flares up again in all of its smacking, finger-picking, delicious glory.
The Hot Luck Festival returns to Austin for the first time since 2019 (thanks, pandemic!) On Memorial Day weekend next spring with a face-to-face event.
All-in Whole Enchilada passes are now available for the event, which takes place May 26-29, 2022 at a variety of venues across Austin.
Single tickets for events will go on sale in early 2022. And then the participating chefs and music acts will also be announced when some of the sponsors give a hint (Whole Foods Market, Karbach Brewing Co., Knob Creek, Hornitos, Creekstone Farms, Tillamook, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Vital Farms, Rambler Sparkling Water, American Lamb Board, Desert Door, Montinore Estate Wine, Minamoto Foods, Genji Sake, Rock Sound Rum, Spiritless, Alaska Seafood) promises a spectacularly delicious event.
Founded by James Beard Award-winning Franklin, along with Mohawk owner James Moody and Feast Portland co-founder Mike Thelin, Hot Luck brings together some of Franklin’s favorite chefs and musicians from across North America and beyond for a BBQ event, that feels more like a rocky culinary summer camp adventure.
At its core, Hot Luck, also known as “a DIY casserole of the culinary and music world,” is a charity event that next year will benefit Houston-based Southern Smoke, which serves the food and beverage industry nationwide through a variety of Programs and through the distribution of funds to workers in crisis.
It’s a charity that Franklin cares about. In fact, earlier this year, Hot Luck partnered with Karbach Brewing to brew Southern Smoke’s official beer. Horseshoe Pilsner is now available across Texas with a portion of the proceeds going to Southern Smoke.
“Southern Smoke has worked hard for our industry during these times and we are excited to announce the return of Hot Luck to bring the culinary world back together for a good cause,” Franklin told CultureMap. “We can’t wait to sit around the campfire and meet old friends and make new ones.”
Festive fans who opt for Whole Enchilada passes can get discounted tickets ($ 700 for $ 450) for a limited time. Whole Enchilada Passes ticket holders have early access to key food events, entry to every music show, and exclusive entry to Hot Luck’s industry kickoff event – where chefs and bartenders mingle with attendees for an intimate experience – on the Thursday evening of the festival.
Entire enchilada ticket holders with two adult tickets can have their children up to the age of 12 accompany them to the festival free of charge. And Hot Luck says it has special prices for teens 13-20 and kids 12 and under when buying tickets a la carte.
