The California-themed Mexican restaurant Reunión 19 of Los Angeles chef Esdras Ochoa has closed – but its fast-casual offshoot, the R19 Taqueria food truck, has opened as a new restaurant in Lakeway. The last day of Reunión 19 was October 3rd and the first day of R19 was October 11th. R19 is located at 2422 Ranch Road 620 South.
The new R19 Taqueria menu is similar to that of Reunión 19 and features Californian-Mexican dishes like tacos, burritos, carne asada fries and more. The new products include an activated charcoal tortilla for seafood, breakfast tacos, queso blanco and an expanded children’s menu. The restaurant also offers marinated meat and homemade tortillas to take away. The restaurant will also have a full bar and television for watching sports.
Reunión 19 opened in East Austin in February 2020 as a collaboration between Los Angeles chef Esdras Ochoa, who appeared at the Netflix cooking competition The Final Table, and Christopher Haydostian. “Given the labor shortage, rising costs and a landlord unwilling to work with me,” Haydostian said in an email to Eater, “I was forced to close the restaurant.”
In April 2021, Haydostian expanded with a trailer, R19 Taqueria, which opened at Waypoint Food Trailer Park in Hudson Bend. This trailer was also closed in October to make way for the restaurant in Lakeway. Ochoa will not be involved in R19. “Esdras is and will remain a friend and colleague that I can count on, but this brand is a solo project,” said Haydostian. “I have the blessings from him and the rest of my partners from Reunion 19 for this concept.”
Reunión 19, 1700 East 2nd Street, previously housed the New York-style Gotham tavern and Al Fico Italian restaurant.
The R19 Taqueria is open Sunday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
