According to the Feeding America Network, the pandemic has increased food insecurity in some areas of northeast Ohio by up to 40 percent. To teach food insecurity, a local group is planning a food drive for college students in the state of Kent and communities in Portage County.
Flashes Fighting Hunger will accept non-perishable donations for its pantry during a drive-through dispensation on Wednesday from 1pm to 4pm at Cartwright Hall on Kent State Campus. Austin Croft, Student Resource Center coordinator, is one of the organizers of the event.

“Indeed, there is a high level of food insecurity in the Kent and Ravenna area,” said Croft. “The pantry is open to community members, students, faculty, staff, and just about anyone.”
Tomorrow’s ride will be contactless for those who want to drop off items. The pantry on the Tri Towers campus is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
