NOTES TO KNOW

• Eastern Illinois will play their last road game of the 2021 season when the Panthers travel to Austin Peay on Saturday afternoon. EIU led southeast Missouri halfway through last weekend but failed to hold off a large third quarter of the Redhawks as EIU dropped to 1-8 in the season and 1-3 in the OVC. Austin Peay lost to leaders UT Martin last week when the Skyhawks scored in the final minutes and blocked a late APSU field goal attempt after time ran out. APSU fell to 3-5 overall, 1-2 in the OVC. The two schools didn’t meet in the spring as their game was canceled at the end of the season due to COVID-19.

• Isaiah Hill had the biggest game of his EIU career in southeast Missouri on Saturday as the 2019 All-OVC rookie selection continue their return to the EIU line-up. Hill only appeared in his third game this season, making 11 passes for 207 yards on Saturday, including a touchdown reception. He scored EIU’s other touchdown in the competition on a 5-yard run, which landed him his second career game with a roaring and receiving touchdown. He became only the ninth player in school history to have a 200 yard reception game, making his total eighth most in school history. It was his third double-digit reception game of his career with a high of 15 against UT Martin during the 2019 season.

• Jason Johnson completed 14 tackles on Saturday in Southeast Missouri as the linebacker continues to lead the OVC this season for his third year. Johnson now has 94 tackles a year and is well on his way to becoming the first EIU player to have 100 tackles in one season since Seth McDonald in the 2015 season. Johnson ranks 14th in the FCS in total tackles and his 50 solo tackles this season 13th in the FCS. Saturday’s game was the eighth double-digit tackle game in Johnson’s career.

• Saturday’s game in Southeast Missouri marked the fourth time this season Eastern Illinois had led a game at halftime. The Panthers were leading the SEMO 9-7 at halftime as the Redhawks returned the opener of the second half for a touchdown to take the lead. EIU also held the lead against Dayton, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin at halftime. The Panthers were able to maintain the lead in the road game at Tennessee Tech, beating the Golden Eagles 14-7 in the second 30 minutes of the game.
