With the holidays approaching, local organizations prepare to help needy Austinites put food on their Thanksgiving tables and stock their pantries.

Most of the events this year are still on a drive-through or delivery basis due to COVID-19 public health concerns, while other readiness, like the Feast of the Sharing of HEB, are planning to return to personal holiday meals in 2022 in the position to volunteer or make a donation, many of the events listed below require assistance with meal preparation or distribution, as well as monetary and food donations.

Central Texas Food Bank Mobile Larders Through December 31st, monetary donations to Central Texas’s largest grocery bank will be matched up to $ 100,000. Thanksgiving Baskets for Mission Accomplished Donate money or food and help provide food baskets for the homeless. Or register voluntarily for the basket assembly and distribution. Great Thanksgiving Banquet This is Mission Possible Austin’s annual Thanksgiving meal for our homeless neighbors. Volunteers are required in different parts of the day (several shifts possible). Bethany United Methodist Church Thanksgiving Meal Delivery A minimum of 150 families will be required to deliver meals to the families receiving meals and to load groceries into cars on the day of the event. Mobile Loaves and Fishes Pre-Thanksgiving Meal Mobile Loaves and Fishes is hosting an annual meal for Austinites affected by homelessness on the Monday before Thanksgiving. Due to COVID-19 security, the meal will be distributed in to-go bins for consumption off-site. Haircuts and flu shots will also be offered during the event. Operation Turkey Register online to help cook, pack and deliver food to those in need. The goal is to prepare 45,000 meals this year so that every hand can help. (Expected delivery is between 10am and 2pm on Thanksgiving Day). Preparation of meals: Wed., November 24th, 6 am-8pm; Food distribution: Thursday, November 25th, 8 am-12pm. Mt. Olive Baptist Church Thanksgiving Meal Takeaway meals are available to the public on a walk-in basis. Voluntary opportunities for adults and older teenagers are available. Food donations welcome. Annie’s Way Thanksgiving Dinner Register online (or text 512 / 801-1629) to sign up for a drive-through pick-up meal. Due to COVID-19, there are limited options for volunteers to set up, cook, serve and tidy up.
