The developer 3Strands and the construction company ICON have completed new 3D printed houses for sale in the USA, demonstrating the possibilities of additive manufacturing for the mass market. Located in Austin, Texas, in a fast-growing neighborhood, the East 17th St Residences project was designed by Logan Architecture and comprises four units with 3D-printed ground floors whose tectonics reflect the building technology.

The project was first announced earlier this year and was built using ICON’s proprietary technology and an “advanced building material” that the company claims is stronger and more resilient than traditional ones. The technology aims to provide safer homes that are better prepared for hazards and natural disasters.

Basically, the real estate crisis in our country is a supply issue. 3Strands is working to solve this by pushing the boundaries of new technologies that address the root causes of this supply problem. With the 3D printing of these homes, East 17th Street is a significant advancement in the future of building. We were overwhelmed by the initial demand from buyers and couldn’t be more pleased with how ICON has delivered beautiful, energy efficient and resilient homes. “- Gary O’Dell, CEO of 3Strands.
