CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Natalie Treviño started in the food industry in 2010 and attended culinary school in Austin. After graduating, Treviño became a private chef and cooked for families at home.

When her grandmother was diagnosed with celiac disease, which meant she couldn’t eat gluten, Treviño started cooking for her.

“I would cook for her and make sure whatever she ever wanted could have with celiac disease, I made all of her favorites gluten-free,” Treviño said. “We had dinner parties on Saturday nights, way too much food and way too much wine and we had a great time, and I missed those dinner parties when she died.”

After her grandmother’s death, Treviño tried to get a job in various restaurants, but was not so lucky. Eventually she got the idea to throw a dinner party at Grandma’s.

“I set up a really nice table in your back yard, I created a great menu, I wrote an email, wrote Facebook, texted 80 people from my past and present, and I thought to myself, ‘You just can come once for dinner? ? ‘ They did and when they came I fed them way too much food and they said, ‘Don’t stop, this is so fun,’ ”she said.

From there, Treviño founded the Roughian Supper Club. The idea was to start a business around the dinner party. She creates the menu and publishes it online so people can register to host or pay to attend. When Treviño told her brother about her business idea, he said she had to do it.

“He said, ‘This is an amazing idea and if you don’t get it right, someone else will instead,'” she said.

Founded in March 2019, the Roughian Supper Club brings great food and fond memories to the people of Coastal Bend and the state of Texas at its events.

“There’s a team out there just to serve and you can sit back and relax and have a really great dinner,” said Treviño.

Week after week, Treviño is welcomed into different homes to cook in people’s kitchens for the dinner parties, and she says this is one of her favorite pastimes.

“It is totally humiliating to be welcome in people’s homes, to be trusted in their homes and rooms, it just means the world to me. It’s a part of the job I never expected, ”she said.

Individuals interested in hosting a dinner party at the Roughian Supper Club can contact Treviño by email at Natalie@TheRoughian.com. To book a seat at a dinner party, events are added on The Roughian Supper Club website.
