An Indonesian barbecue food truck, Sate Texas, arrives in the Austin area this summer. The truck opens on Saturday July 31st at the Old Gin Pfood Court in Pflugerville at 310 East Pecan Street.

Texas Sate will have Sate Ayam and Sate Babi (marinated chicken grilled on the flame and marinated pork skewers). There are also specials like Ayam Bakar Taliwang (spicy grilled chicken) and Nasi Uduk (rice cooked in coconut milk and spices). The dishes are served with yellow rice, pickled vegetables, and sambal and peanut sauces.

Sate Texas is owned by Tina and Eugene Villarreal. Eugene is from Austin and has extensive kitchen experience (his family owned a catering business) while Tina is from Indonesia. The couple chose Indonesian food because they missed Indonesian food.

After some catering appearances for the Indonesian community, Sate Texas made its debut as a pop-up at the Asian Night Market 2019. The Villarreals started building a trailer in September 2020 and plan to finish it this summer.

The state’s first weekend operates daily from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a limited menu or until everything is sold out. The following opening times will be announced later.

Update, July 19, 12:21 p.m .: This article, originally published April 21, has been updated to include State Texas’ location and opening date.
