Austin, Texas – Proponents of the No Kid Hungry campaign put letters to the editors highlighting the urgent need for Congress to pass President Biden’s American Families Plan, which provides vital nutritional support to families in need of it most.
The American Families Plan builds on the American Rescue Plan’s support for Summer Pandemic-EBT by investing more than $ 25 billion to make the successful program permanent and accessible to all 29 million children who receive free and discounted meals . Research shows that this program reduces food insecurity in children and leads to positive changes in nutritional outcomes.

The Austin-based online home shopping destination has been offering a one-to-one program since October 2017, offering millions of hot meals to children in the UK and India. Now they are partnering with No Kid Hungry to donate meals to children around the US and Austin. FOX 7 Austin’s Jane Lonsdale has learned the details.
They wrote, “It is time for Congress to update and modernize the summer meal programs by consistently implementing guidelines that fed so many children during the COVID crisis – additional benefits for summer food and the ability to have children with meals in order to overcome transport barriers – and make them part of future solutions. “

Regarding “Katy ISD Will Offer Free Meals To Students In The Area This Summer” (May 26th):
“For one in four children hungry in Texas today, summer is usually the hungriest time of the year. However, this summer may be a different story as new benefits and temporary waivers help reach even more children with food. ” They enable parents, for example, to collect meals for the week or organizations to bring meals to the children at home. Because of this flexibility, over 13 million additional meals were served to children in need in Texas last year. But these measures are temporary.

It’s time Congress updated and modernized the summer meal programs by permanently putting in place policies that fed as many children as they did during the COVID crisis, such as additional summer food discounts and meal service options that break down barriers to transportation. Sens.
