Austin FC returned home in last place in the 13-man Western Conference, taking three points against a Vancouver Whitecaps team, which were one point ahead of 12th place. Despite a half-time lead, the Verde and Schwarz went to last place with a 1: 2 defeat. It was Austin FC’s third consecutive loss.

The night started well when Alex Ring headed for a corner from Sebastián Driussi in the 37th minute. It was the second goal of the season for Ring and the first time in franchise history that Austin FC scored a corner kick.

The first half was mainly controlled by the Verde and Schwarz. Austin FC made 100 more passes in the first 45 minutes and had two shots on goal compared to Vancouver’s none.

The good vibes wouldn’t last.

Craven’s corner: Possession doesn’t become goals for Austin FC

The Whitecaps were tied in the 52nd minute when defender Jake Nerwinski equalized after a Brad Stuver save from close range. The pressure on Stuver grew in the second half. His first save wasn’t until the 51st minute. In the 65th minute he had up to four saves when Vancouver took control of the attack despite around 40 percent possession.

Vancouver took a 2-1 lead in the 65th minute with a goal from Brian White. Scoring more than one goal proved too much for an Austin FC squad that scored fewer goals than any other team in Major League Soccer. His 14 goals in 19 games are the lowest in the Western Conference at seven.

Man of the Game – Alex Ring

The Austin FC captain’s performance left the Verde and Black believers ready to recite Walt Whitman. And as the protagonist in the famous poem “O Captain! My captain! ‘, Ring helped straighten the ship and put an end to a long misfortune. Ring, better known as a defensive enforcer and mediator, hit Austin FC in the 37th minute when his head found a Driussi cross from a corner kick. Ring also offered his usual tenacity as a defender. He is without a doubt the engine of the club and the clock in the middle of the park.
