AUSTIN (KXAN) – Austin-based Q2 Holdings is holding its annual dodgeball tournament in support of Type 1 Diabetes on Tuesday.
The tournament is returning after a year-long hiatus due to COVID-19. In honor of November, National Diabetes Awareness Month, the second quarter will donate all proceeds to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Austin FC ended their first season at Q2 with an overwhelming win over Sporting KC
This year the tournament will be played at Q2 Stadium, home of Austin FC. The stadium opened in July 2021.
In the competition, teams of Q2 employees compete against teams of sponsors, including Austin FC.
JDFR is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the research and promotion of type 1 diabetes. For several years now, Q2 has hosted a company-wide charity tournament where staff teams play against sponsoring teams like Austin FC and JLL to raise money for JDFR. As of 2017, Q2 has raised over $ 198,000 for JDFR through the event.
Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that can affect both children and adults. In type 1 diabetes, the pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that is needed to get energy from food. There is currently no cure.
The event will also feature happy hour and a ceremony honoring community veterans and tournament winners.
