Raising Cane’s to offer higher salaries in Austin to attract new employees

In an effort to attract and retain employees in the Austin area, approximately 70% of their hourly workforce is getting at least $ 1 more per hour and the starting rate is $ 12 per hour.

The Austin food industry continues to suffer from a shortage of employees.

“It’s arguably the toughest workforce climate we’ve all faced, be it in restaurants, retail outlets, or any other way,” said Tommy Van Wolfe, vice president of company restaurants for the popular fast food chain Raising Cane’s.

Van Wolfe spoke to FOX 7 Austin about the challenges of setting up their locations here in the city. “We want our restaurants not only to be occupied, but also to be equipped in such a way that they take care of our customers. It’s just as important to take care of our crew members, ”he said.

In some cases, they had to temporarily change opening hours when there were not enough staff. “We made adjustments as needed to keep operations running as we expected and to give our customers the perfect box,” he said.

To relieve their employees, they even set up various levels of management and other positions such as HR and served hungry customers.

Texas restaurants are struggling with staff shortages

The latest data from the Texas Restaurant Association shows that more than 90 percent of restaurant owners have a position that is difficult to fill.

“We’re all cooks and cashiers and we all have a Whatever It Takes mentality. It was humbling to see how many of our great team got the chance to help. It was their decision, they heard we needed help and they interfered. It was incredible that we had people from all levels of the organization, “said Van Wolfe.

Fast food places aren’t the only places that struggle to find work. The Texas Workforce Commission said the food industry in general continues to have high employee needs across the state. They have been running recruitment events across the region continuously to fill these gaps.

In an effort to attract and retain employees in the Austin area, Raising Cane has approximately 70% of its hourly employees earning at least $ 1 more an hour. “Makes a huge difference in your paycheck and will certainly help us attract additional great talent and the larger Austin market,” said Van Wolfe.

Raising Cane’s also sets the starting price for the area at $ 12 per hour.
