Readers of Travel + Leisure magazine fondly remember Alamo City.

In a recent poll, Travel + Leisure readers voted San Antonio the sixth best city in the United States. Charleston, South Carolina tops the list. Two other cities in Texas received praise: Fort Worth (# 12) and Austin (# 13).

Every year, the magazine asks readers to share their thoughts on cities, airlines, hotels, spas, and other travel experiences. Readers rate cities according to their sights and landmarks, culture, cuisine, friendliness, shopping opportunities and the overall value.

“The standout achievements in 2021 are as widely scattered as ever and indicate a renewed appreciation for places that offer unparalleled natural beauty and, in many places, fewer crowds,” said Jacqui Gifford, editor-in-chief of Travel + Leisure, in a press release.

Notable San Antonio attractions include the River Walk, Alamo, Pearl District, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, Hemisfair, San Antonio Zoo, SeaWorld San Antonio, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, highly rated restaurants, and highly acclaimed hotels.

“San Antonio is a city rich in history, full of culture and booming with modern attractions. It invites visitors to discover the old and the new, ”advertises Visit San Antonio, the city’s convention and tourism office, on its website.

Travel + Leisure readers also praised Hotel Emma in San Antonio. It ranks seventh among the 15 best city hotels in the continental United States. Hotel Emma is the only Texas hotel on this list.
