1. ATX Sliders opened at Saxon Pub, 1320 South Lamar Blvd., Austin in early June. The new food truck from Michael Lemer, co-founder of Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ, and Carlos Cruz, former head chef at the Austin Hilton, serves gourmet beef, chicken and vegetarian sliders. 2. Birds Barbershop celebrates its 15th anniversary. The local barbershop chain has grown to nine locations in Austin since friends Jayson Rapaport and Michael Portman opened their first store at 2110 South Lamar Blvd., Austin in May 2006. Austin-based brewery Independence Brewing partnered with Birds to create Birds Anniversary lager. The beer will be served in Birds stores from June 1st and will not be for sale. www.birdsbarbershop.com
3. Classic Childhood opened in late May 2005 on Southern Oaks Drive, Austin. Owner Pamela Torres extends the life of shirts with buttons by transforming them into children’s clothing such as rompers, bloomers or pajamas. The store, which also includes a sewing studio where most of the clothing is designed and manufactured, is the first stationary location of the Austin-based company Torres. The store is celebrating a grand opening on June 12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with free giveaways for the first 20 attendees, free food and drink, and activities. 4. Restore Hyper Wellness is located at 1100 South Lamar Blvd., Austin, Ste. 2110, Austin, June 18 in Lamar Union development. The Austin-based wellness company offers services like cryotherapy, which uses cold temperatures to reduce inflammation, relieve pain, increase energy, and boost metabolism.
