1 man killed in Austin shooting, others injured

One person died and several others were injured in an early Saturday morning shooting in Austin, Minnesota.

Austin Police said gunfire broke out in Block 100 of 12th Street Northeast at around 1:10 a.m., with an emergency call reporting the shooting and multiple casualties.

The officers arrived at the scene and found a man with gunshot wounds. Rescue attempts were unsuccessful and the man died on the scene.

Police later learned that more people were injured in the shootings, although details of how many people were shot and their conditions were not disclosed.

“Based on evidence and hearing from witnesses, the police believe the incident was targeted and there is no ongoing threat to public safety,” said Captain Todd Clennon.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the investigation.
