Rockport officials update flooding status and street closures

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Rockport Police Department requests motorists to avoid the streets during the current heavy rain event.

Rockport officials say there have been large numbers of calls to seek help for blocked cars in flooded areas.

They added that drivers are sightseeing, laying barricades and creating wakes that damage homes and businesses.

Moving and bypassing barricades is illegal and puts you and your property at risk.

Almost all roads have water problems and there are certain roads that have become impassable.

Below is a list of roads that motorists should not use:

1. Bay Avenue.

2. Business 35 from McDonald’s North to Chaparral in Fulton

3. Champions at Royal Oaks Drive

4. Champions at Traylor

5. Chaparral between Lanfair and Business 35

6. Company at Live Oak

7. Company from Live Oak to Omohundro

8. FM 2165 / Pearl Street from Linden to Business 35

9. Market Street from Business 35 S. to Hickory Ave.

10. Market Street from S Austin Street to S Magnolia Street

11. Nopal near Austin

12. Omohundro Street from Maple to Enterprise

13. Picton Avenue.

14. Sorenson Street

15. Whistler’s Cove Streets

16. 100 Block Sparks Drive (out of town)

17. Bois D’Arc (Lamar) high standing water

The National Weather Service is forecasting another 6 to 8 inches of rain through Friday, compounded by floods, and flash flood warnings are in effect through Friday morning.

Rockport officials said that if you need to travel, visit Rockport City’s website or Facebook page for additional closures and check www.DriveTexas.org for state road closures in and outside of our area.
