New Braunfels: SouthStar Communities Names New Sr VP to Lead Mayfair Development

New Braunfels (County Comal) – SouthStar Communities has called Chip mills his senior vice president and appointed him to lead the development of the 1,900 acre Mayfair mixed-use master plan community north of New Braunfels.
The SouthStar Communities in New Braunfels recently got their master plan approved by the city council.
Mills brings over 20 years of real estate development and planning experience and specializes in large mixed-use communities and commercial development projects.
Prior to joining SouthStar, Mills spent 15 years with RVI planning + landscape architecture in Austin, TX, where he was responsible for business development, market growth, strategic planning and marketing and leading the development planning of numerous real estate projects.

In Mills’ leadership role, he will oversee planning and development at Mayfair and work with the City of New Braunfels and Comal County to coordinate the community’s many public services.

Mill’s experience includes planning and executing other major projects in central Texas, including Trace, Kissing Tree, and La Cima in San Marcos, Mueller in Austin, and Wolf Ranch in Georgetown.
Mills earned his bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from Louisiana State University. He is licensed by the American Institute of Certified Land Planners and works with the Urban Land Institute, the American Planning Association, and the Real Estate Council of Austin.
Mayfair will be a mixed-use, master-planned community that is estimated to create an estimated 2,000 permanent jobs and nearly $ 2 billion real estate value over the next 15 years.
The 1,900 acre community has a mile of the I-35 facade and plans to build an underpass beneath the major freeway.
The approved development agreement provides for up to 6,000 apartments, 330 hectares of public parks, 70 hectares of commercial property, 120 hectares of mixed-use development, a 160 hectare employment park and four new Comal ISD schools.
The start of construction is planned for the end of 2021, the first apartments are to be completed in 2023.
