AUSTIN (Austin Business Journal) – Enough jobs have been created on the Austin subway last month to bring the labor market back to levels not seen since the pandemic began.
According to a September 21 analysis by the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, there were around 1,142,500 jobs outside of agriculture in August, 100 more than in February 2020, the month before the pandemic hit the region. That doesn’t mean that each of the 137,000 jobs lost in March and April 2020 have been regained, but the wider labor market has bounced back to pre-pandemic levels.
This is an important metric as it shows the region’s ability to recover faster than most of the country’s subways. Only three other major U.S. metros have added jobs since the pandemic began – Salt Lake City, Kansas City, and Dallas.
