Companies in the Austin area are responding to Biden’s vaccine mandate
A new ordinance issued by President Biden requires companies with 100 or more employees nationwide to require vaccinations or weekly tests.
Austin, Texas – As part of a new appointment from President Biden, companies nationwide at 10
0 or more employees must require vaccinations or weekly tests.
“It would easily affect hundreds of thousands of Texans,” said Glenn Hamer, president and CEO of the Texas Association of Business.
Since the announcement, he has said he has answered questions and concerns from business owners. While he says Texas business owners overwhelmingly want their employees to be vaccinated, President Biden has exceeded it by making the vaccination mandatory.
“We don’t need the federal government to come up with any half-baked, untested, probably illegal, efforts to require vaccinations,” said Hamer. “That will only politicize and create further confusion in an area where we need to bring Americans together.”
In the Elephant Room, music manager Michael Mordecai said he did not agree with the federal regulations. However, they have fewer than 100 employees and do not need any vaccinations, but they are strongly encouraged to do so.
He also expressed frustration at the politicization of the issue.
“When I was 14 years old and the US surgeon general said that cigarette smoking could be dangerous to health, nobody had to tell me twice, back then there was trust in the surgeon general,” said Mordecai. “It is now sad that the country is so divided and that this is a political football.”
Following President Biden’s announcement, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called the move “an egregious, tyrannical seizure of power” and said in a tweet that he was “going to sue this disastrous admin very soon.”
Governor Abbott said in a tweet that “Texas is already working to stop this seizure of power,” and mentioned the issue will be taken up during the upcoming special session.
“The message from the White House and the message from the governor’s office are confusing and have made us focus only on things we could control,” Mordecai said. At the moment they have closed their doors and are working on various repairs and upgrades at the venue.
The plan released by President Biden also requires “COVID-19 vaccinations for over 17 million healthcare workers in Medicare and Medicaid-participating hospitals and other healthcare facilities.”
Currently, Ascension Seton Medical Center and Baylor, Scott & White Health are already requiring vaccination of their employees.
