San Antonio officials have repeatedly urged residents to get vaccinated as hospital admissions increase in the county. On Thursday, 695 people are fighting COVID-19 in the hospital. Bexar County judge Nelson Wolff said in a coronavirus briefing on July 28 that 95 percent of those people in the hospital are not vaccinated.

In Bexar County, 88 percent of positive cases are attributed to the dangerous and highly contagious Delta variant.
“The rise in cases and hospital stays should concern us all, especially those who are not vaccinated because of the risk of serious illness,” Mayor Ron Nirenberg said in a press release encouraging others to vaccinate. “You have the power to protect yourself, your family and your friends by getting vaccinated to be safe from COVID-19.”
On Friday, Austin-Travis County hit the highest level of its COVID-19 risk guidelines after the seven-day moving average officially hit 50 new hospital admissions. Officials also reported that there are only 16 ICU beds available for the Austin area.
