Austin Mayor believes the United States Grand Prix is likely to get the green light this week and is not ruling out a second race at the Circuit of the Americas despite the COVID-19 situation.
Cases have increased recently in both Texas and the United States, cooling the prospect of a one-two in Austin following the cancellation of the Japanese Grand Prix. With a drop rate as one of the highest for the remaining races on the Formula 1 calendar, there has been some speculation that the race itself will go as planned, but Austin Mayor Steve Adler is confident that the green light will be given soon .

And while a second race at COTA is less likely as F1 has to replace the Japanese Grand Prix with a same day event to lift travel restrictions from Turkey to the UK – the race before the Japan slot – Adler still wants to move to see it happen.
“For me, I was one of the early season ticket holders here, so it’s certainly something that is a great thing for our city as a personal interest,” he said. “So if the health department comes back and says this is in line with what we’re doing to protect our community, I think it would be great to see.
“I saw what happened to Singapore and Australia when we booked our event here and I heard that this is a possibility and it would be an exciting prospect.”
