Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority Expands Use of Everbridge Platform to Enhance Employee and Community Safety

BURLINGTON, Massachusetts – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Everbridge, Inc. (NASDAQ: EVBG), the world’s leading provider of critical event management (CEM), today announced that the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority of Austin, Texas, commonly referred to as Capital Metro, has terminated its deployment of the Everbridge platform for optimized operational communication in real time, connecting operators with dispatchers and internal security officers.

As the premier public transportation provider in Austin, serving a metropolitan population of over two million, Capital Metro operates bus, paratransit services, and a suburban rail system known as Capital MetroRail, and transports people, jobs, and communities through high-quality transportation connects to central Texas.

The transport operator’s MetroAccess program serves as a demand-oriented, shared transport service for people whose disabilities prevent them from using other bus and train services. The MetroAccess service complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), employs 350 vehicle operators and manages 240 vehicles.

“The Everbridge tool directly increases customer satisfaction, reduces overall risk, and improves operational safety and efficiency,” said Suzie Edrington, director of demand response operations at Capital Metro. “It is crucial that the drivers feel that they are being heard. This unique Everbridge effort hits the eyes and ears on the road and bridges a void in the transportation industry, especially when it comes to caring for people with disabilities. ”

“Capital Metro’s commitment to the safety of its commuters continues in its creative approach to streamlining internal processes and prioritizing employee feedback,” said Erin Edwards, Everbridge’s senior director of state and local government. “We are honored to serve the Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority and provide Critical Event Management (CEM) solutions that help ensure a safe transit experience for their customers across Austin.”

Before using Everbridge, Capital Metro was built with a segregation between the MetroAccess frontline operators (hundreds of bus drivers) who had feedback from on-site commuters and the operations and support teams who respond and make changes for the continued Security and implementation of the changes you were able to make, quality service challenged by all.

By leveraging the Everbridge platform, Capital Metro has significantly enhanced its ability to introduce systemic operational improvements by creating an efficient means of delivering frontline operator feedback directly to the transportation company’s safety and support teams.

In addition, Everbridge platform helped Capital Metro relocate operations to deliver over a million meals to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of taking people to groceries (i.e., grocery stores) as is usually done with transit, they brought the groceries to the people to reduce the spread of the virus while ensuring that those in need were fed. During a recent snow storm, drivers were taking people to shelters, taking patients for dialysis and distributing water when the city’s water system was shut down.

The successful digital transformation of MetroAccess systems has helped to reduce countless incidents while at the same time taking liability and risks into account. Capital Metro receives around 700 reports annually from frontline operators using Everbridge’s automated communication methods. Today, feedback remains simple and immediately evaluated by the agency’s employees and implemented on a large scale in their operational system. This cuts the time it takes to implement improvements by weeks and months, gives frontline staff the reassurance that their input is being used and valued, and dramatically increases the amount of productive feedback the agency receives.

With Everbridge, Capital Metro today benefits from information it has never had before, provides validation to its unionized operators, and helps thousands of customers navigate their communities and navigate the world safely with better experiences.
