Downtown Austin bar closing temporarily after KXAN report

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A complex of thunderstorms brought up to 10 cm of rain to parts of central Texas on Tuesday evening, causing persistent isolated rainfall until early Wednesday morning. This first lap of rain is just the beginning of an extended rainy weather pattern that lasts for much of the first Austin City Limits Music Festival weekend.

Local flash floods are possible tonight even in very dry soil conditions from September 8th to the driest of September as torrential rains of 3-4 “per hour cause rapid runoff. In just 15 minutes, 1.09” of rain fell near Cedar Park 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, and some areas have recorded more than 3 inches of rain in several hours. These are torrential precipitation rates; dry, thirsty soil generally soaks up precipitation and limits runoff.
