AUSTIN, TX – Governor Greg Abbott has ordered flags to be hoisted in honor of the fallen heroes in Afghanistan.

Governor Greg Abbott ordered the lowering of Texas flags across the state to half-staff on Friday in honor of U.S. soldiers who lost their lives in an attack on the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan yesterday.

The flags should remain at half mast until sunset on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Here is the letter from the governor:

Pursuant to Chapter 3100 of the Texas Government Code, the state of Texas flags on all government buildings, facilities and offices will be immediately cut in half to honor the U.S. soldiers who lost their lives in an attack on the airport in Kabul, Afghanistan yesterday. The flags should be fully occupied again at sunset on Monday, August 30, 2021.

Individuals, corporations, communities, and other political divisions and corporations are encouraged to fly the Texas flag for the same period of time as a token of honor and respect for the half-occupation.

The First Lady and I offer our prayers of consolation to those affected by this devastating event.
