ERCOT urges Texans to save on a stretch of extreme temperatures across the state.
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Governor Greg Abbott said in a news conference this week that the state’s power grid is “better than ever,” but some Texas families and small businesses disagree, while ERCOT urges one to protect the environment to avoid further power outages.
For many Texans, February 2021 is a nightmare that many wish they could erase from their memories. The winter storm brought spiraling lines outside grocery stores, freezing nights inside houses, and damage to houses that could not be repaired.
It also hurt small businesses that had been struggling with a year of lost sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Crema Bakery in South Austin is a small business that had to give away thousands of dollars’ worth of groceries when the power went out. The thought of it happening again at three-digit temperatures is unimaginable for the owner of the Crema Bakery, Jessica Tomberlin.

“For a governor, for a state, and for a legislature that claims to be so focused on the little guy and the business, it’s just unfathomable that they think that’s okay with us,” said Tomberlin.
