Austin, Texas, July 1, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Members of the Austin Chapter of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) met with Rep. Lloyd Doggett where he announced that he would register as a co-sponsor of the Energy Innovation Act (HR 2307).

Rep. Doggett joins 74 other housemates in support of the law.

The Energy Innovation Act is one of the toughest climate laws on the table in Congress. It will put a price on the carbon pollution and distribute that revenue to Americans as a monthly dividend or as a “carbon cashback” payment.

The bill is expected to cut U.S. carbon emissions by at least 30% in the first five years and get us on the road to net zero by 2050. In doing so, it will also improve health and save lives by reducing the pollution that Americans breathe. It will boost the economy by driving clean energy innovation and job growth.

“Rep. Doggett has worked tirelessly for decades on behalf of low-income and underserved families and is a co-sponsor of the Green New Deal. says Jeff Baker, Retired city Austin Fireman and TX-35 component.

The Austin The Citizens’ Climate Lobby Chapter has met with Rep. Doggett’s office dozen of times over the past decade, organizing many phone calls and inaugural letters to the office on climate change and the need for solutions. An employee representative and several high school students attended our last meeting.

Since its inception, the Energy Innovation Act has received supportive responses from economists, interest groups, religious groups and citizens. Here are statements from the Environmental Defense Fund, the World Resources Institute, the United States Catholic Bishops Conference, the Alliance for Market Solutions, and more.

Locally, CO2 fee & dividend is supported by Austin City Council, the San Antonio Express News, and dozen of local businesses and organizations. Also a CCL chapter member Matt Weldon persuaded Austin Energy to set a low price for CO2 internally, resulting in less reliance on coal power and lower emissions.

Here in the center Texas We are already feeling the effects of climate change. According to Bruce Melton, ClimateDiscovery.org is “a collapse of the polar vortex that catapulted into the country an amazingly unprecedented winter weather disaster”. Texas led to a cascade of disasters with up to 978 deaths and costs between $ 200 and $ 295 billionas much as Hurricanes Harvey and Katrina put together. ”

We are ready for Congress to work together and take action. We appreciate that Rep. Doggett has responded to our concerns and endorsed this ambitious carbon pricing law.
