Austin, Texas – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Major League Pickleball (MLP) was officially unveiled in Dreamland – Dripping Springs, Texas at an event with MLP executives, players, and VIP guests. MLP is the new elite pickleball league in which the world’s best 32 professional pickleball players (16 women and 16 men) over four days in Dreamland – Dripping Springs, August 5, 2021. The eight teams compete for the Pritchard Cup, named after the founder of pickleball, Joel Pritchard. MLP will also hold its first draft on October 1, 2021 in Dallas, TX – with the eight MLP Team Owner groups each selecting four players (two women, two men) to compete in the first MLP event in November. Pickleball has been named “the fastest growing sport in America” by The Economist.
The first MLP season in Dreamland – Dripping Springs will feature an unprecedented team competition format in professional pickleball, where all players on each team will receive the same prize money (depending on where their team ends) with a total prize fund of over US $ 150,000 Dollar, one of the largest prize pools for any professional pickleball competition to date.
