Nutty Brown Cafe & Amphitheater, a long-time music venue in southwest Austin, announced it will close its current location on November 28, before opening a new venue in Round Rock next year.
Nutty Brown will host one final two-day Texas Country Music Extravaganza before closing, featuring Pat Green, Kevin Fowler and Jon Wolfe on November 26th and Randy Rogers Band, Stoney LaRue and Roger Creager on November 27th.
“Nutty Brown was one of the first venues to shoot us. The first venue in Austin to stand behind the Randy Rogers Band and believe in the music we made, “Rogers said in a September 27 statement.” It’s an honor to be the last artist in such a historic and important part of the music community in Austin. “
Nutty Brown opened on 12225 Hwy. 290, Austin, July 2000 in a facility that originally housed Nutty Brown Mills, a flour and candy store. Owner Mike Farr first announced plans to move to Round Rock in 2014, but several delays in construction and transportation development pushed the venue’s schedule backwards. The Round Rock City Council approved the sale of the former McNeil Park to Farr in 2018, along with an economic incentive agreement that saw the new $ 10 million Nutty Brown venue open by the end of 2019. The Round Rock City Council agreed to an extension of this schedule in 2019. Nutty Brown’s September 27 announcement called for the new venue to open sometime in 2022.
HEB has owned the site where Nutty Brown is currently located for six years. The Community Impact Newspaper published the news earlier this year that HEB plans to break the ground for a new 105,689 square meter store at this location as early as March 2022.
“We couldn’t have asked for a better landlord and partner than HEB has been in the past 6 years. They really went out of their way to support live music, “Farr said in a press release.
Tickets for Nutty Brown’s final weekend will be available on October 1st at www.nuttybrown.com.
