Plastic film collection Monday
In celebration of America Recycles Day, several dedicated Zero Waste Blocks leaders from Austin Recycle and Reuse are holding plastic wrap collection events across Austin on Monday.
Plastic wrap – including grocery bags, plastic wrap, used ziplock bags, or pillow-shaped plastic wrap – is a single-use stretchable plastic that won’t be accepted in a resident’s blue recycling cart. Placed in the blue trolley, this plastic poses a threat to recycling plants by becoming entangled in the gears of the machines, blocking operations and posing a safety risk for employees who have to manually remove these items from the gears. Plastic wrap that is placed in brown garbage trucks goes straight to the landfill, where it doesn’t disintegrate.
Austinites can also dispose of their plastic wrap by scheduling a drop-off at the Recycle & Reuse Drop-off Center, 2514 Business Center Drive. Many local food and retail locations also offer plastic film recycling.

LOCKHART
Open day at the inner city project
The City of Lockhart is holding its first open house for the Downtown Revitalization Project on Monday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the First Lockhart Baptist Church Connection Center, 200 S. Blanco St.
The event begins at 7 p.m. with a lecture by the consulting engineer and the city’s landscape architects, after which the audience can walk around and examine conceptual design displays throughout the site. This approach gives the community the opportunity to talk to project staff and city workers about the project.
The downtown project includes planned utility, drainage, street design, parking, hardscape, pedestrian access and landscaping upgrades in the nine block area around the Caldwell County Courthouse. The project is in the design phase.
