Round Rock ISD announced on Nov. 4 that the district will return to face-to-face learning for all students in the next semester for the spring of 2022 following the approval of COVID-19 vaccines for children under 12.
The district will open vaccination clinics in November before a full return to campus in January. This ends the district’s virtual learning program, which has existed since August.
“For many families it was crucial to have a virtual option, especially since the delta variant increased sharply in late summer,” said a statement from the district. “Establishing a virtual learning program in response to the ongoing pandemic provided a way to keep students connected with the Round Rock ISD teachers and support services and to stay on track with their colleagues on campus.”
COVID-19 vaccination requirements for students are not set by the district, but by the state, as other such requirements apply, according to Maritza Gallaga, RRISD Associate Director of Communications and Community Relations.
“As for the vaccination requirements for students, these are set by the state,” Gallaga said in an email. “If they updated their requirements to include the COVID-19 vaccine, we would be doing their job.”
An announcement from the district regarding COVID-19 vaccination clinics came the following week, November 10th. The district will host COVID-19 clinics for children ages 5-11 from November 14-18. On November 14th, the clinic will be available at the Stony Point High School Performing Arts Center, 5800 McNeil Drive, Austin, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Clinics will be open from November 15-18 at the Kelly Reeves Athletic Complex at 10211 Parmer Lane, Austin, 2-8pm
These clinics are only free for children ages 5-11 and are free, but parents and guardians must register their children in advance for appointments and be present for a child to receive the vaccine. If the child has health insurance and a health or prescription card, parents are asked to bring this information with them as well.
December clinics are also held to give students the opportunity to receive their second dose of vaccine.
