According to the APD, two men with guns and masks entered the shop and demanded items from employees and customers. They ended up stealing items from both customers and the store itself.

No arrests have been made at the moment, APD says, but officials have descriptions of the robbers.

The first man is described as a black man who is approximately 5’10 inches tall and has a medium / hoarse build. According to police, he wore several layers of clothing, including a black jacket, white undershirt, black pants and sunglasses.

Pharmacy customers react

Liberty Pharmacy has changed hands over the years, but those who stop by have nothing but good things to say.

“These are good people, they are hard-working people,” said one pharmacy customer. “It feels awful for someone to do that. I always try to support the mom and pop shops. “

Austin City Councilor Mackenzie Kelly stopped the Monday after the robbery to check on staff inside. Liberty has been their on-site pharmacy for years.

“When something like this happens, it shakes us all,” said Kelly. “Not knowing where the perpetrators are or whether they will strike again … that is also worrying.”

An Austin police detective told KXAN, based on the nature of the crime, it appears the suspects may have known what they were doing, but robbery like this is a rarity.

“Usually it’s more of a break-in after work,” said Det. Michael Decker.

Decker is now searching the security cameras but says it will be a challenge as the men were wearing masks.

KXAN’s Kaitlyn Karmout asked Decker how often such cases are resolved.

“I would say putting a number on it is arbitrary. There are some things that can solve a case like this, and sometimes when it doesn’t happen again and we have no clues, ”Decker said. “It’s hard to put a figure.”

Community members initially questioned the response times in this case. Decker says the call came after the suspects left around 10:47 a.m. on Saturday. The officers arrived five minutes later.
