Turning Pointe Dance Studio in Flower Mound fueled by growth

Owner Amy Houston, far right, said the company name refers not only to a ballet dance, but also to a crucial time, “whether it is a turning point in her life for something positive or for her faith or talent.” (Karen Chaney / Community Impact Newspaper)
As a 10-year-old with a year of dance lessons behind her, Amy Houston decided that as an adult she wanted to own her own dance studio.
Houston earned a bachelor’s degree in theater and dance with a major in economics from the University of Texas at Austin in 2001. In May 2005 she opened the Turning Pointe Dance Studio in downtown Bartonville.
Houston said the studio was growing, and because they needed more space, Houston relocated the store to 2851 Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound in 2011. More dancers signed up for classes and in 2016 she opened a second studio at 2613 Sagebrush Drive in Flower Mound. From there the dancers multiplied. In June 2021, Houston purchased property that was previously a church at 2801 Morriss Road in Flower Mound.
“My goal has always been to have my own building. We want to be good stewards of our money, ”Houston said. “We wanted our own piece of land that we could build ourselves.”
Houston stated that her vision for the new location, which she believes can open in January, goes beyond the dance floors.
“One thing I love about our studio is that we don’t just come to dance classes. We are a dance family, ”she said. “With this outside space, I see things like garden parties, Easter egg hunts, and family picnics.”
Mommy and Me courses are offered to people aged 18 months to 3 years. With the tap and ballet combination program, preschoolers can immerse themselves in the world of dance. Ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop and contemporary dance classes are offered for dancers aged 7 to 18. There are also courses for adults and special events.
With 17 years of studio owner experience, Houston is pleased that Turning Pointe Dance Studio has steadfastly held onto its commitment to ensuring that its dancers are in a safe environment.
“Parents don’t have to worry about what music [students] hear what costumes they wear, how they dance, ”she said. “It’s a healthy activity.”
