UT Austin Climbs in Latest National Undergraduate Rankings

AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas at Austin ranked 38th among national universities in the latest US News & World Report undergraduate rankings, climbing four places since last year.

UT Austin now ranks 10th among US public universities, three places more than last year, and remains the best public university in Texas.

US News took four undergraduate disciplines that year, and UT Austin took top 10 positions in three of them: Business (No. 5), Engineering (No. 10), and Computer Science (No. 10). The School of Nursing was ranked 23rd nationwide in US News’ first bachelor’s ranking.

“This is ultimately a story about UT’s trajectory. We are going further in many ways and improving our position among the elite universities, ”said Jay Hartzell, President of UT Austin. “We’re not done yet and our future looks very bright, even though we appreciate the recognition of our progress that this ranking represents. They provide well-deserved recognition for our schools and programs and are a testament to the excellence of our faculty, staff and students. “

The US News Ranking is one of the most cited measures of undergraduate degrees and is based on 12 weighted factors. The university’s higher ranking this year contributed to its high reputation ratings and an increase in graduation rates after six years, first-year retention rates, and faculty resources.

UT Austin is again the best university in Texas for veterans and number 16 nationally. The university also ranked in the top 25 in two special categories, ranking 19th among the most innovative schools in the country and 25th nationwide for undergraduate research.

The McCombs School of Business achieved, in addition to its overall ranking No. 5, top 10 special rankings in all 13 categories:

  • No. 3 in the MIS
  • No. 3 in quantitative analysis
  • No. 4 in management
  • # 4 in real estate
  • No. 4 in marketing
  • # 5 in Business Analytics
  • # 5 in finance
  • No. 6 in insurance risk
  • No. 7 in entrepreneurship
  • No. 7 in production
  • No. 8 in the supply chain
  • No. 10 in international business

UT Computer Science took 10th place nationwide with five top 10 special rankings:

  • # 6 in programming
  • No. 6 in software engineering
  • # 9 in Artificial Intelligence
  • # 9 in Computer Systems
  • No. 10 in theory

The Cockrell School of Engineering was ranked 10th nationwide with seven top 10 specialties:

  • No. 1 in petroleum technology
  • # 5 in chemical engineering
  • No. 5 in civil engineering
  • No. 7 in environmental technology
  • # 9 in Computer Engineering
  • No. 9 in aerospace engineering
  • # 10 in electrical engineering

Other Texas universities were included in the national rankings. Among the public and private universities in the United States, Rice University ranks 17th, Texas A&M 68th, and The University of Texas at Dallas 136th.
