The criteria set by the WCCHD were initially met on July 5th and have been constant and increasing since then.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas – The Williamson County and Cities Health District (WCCHD) announced Monday that the county has met the criteria to move into its “orange phase” of COVID-19. The criteria set by the WCCHD were initially met on July 5th and have been constant and increasing since then.

WCCHD said the incidence for Monday was 6.17 per 100,000 people, which has more than doubled in the past week and continues to rise. Hospital admissions to TSA Region O have also increased daily in the past week, which, according to WCCHD, is the second criterion for advancing into a phase.

The hospitalization rate remains low at 2.47%, but has also doubled in the past week. WCCHD said the age group with the most cases is 18 to 30 years old, followed by 31 to 50 year olds.

WCCHD’s Recommendations for Containing COVID-19 Phased Gating Stages were updated in May to reflect changes in the CDC’s recommendations for fully vaccinated individuals. The color-based phase guidelines are not changes to local rules or regulations for companies, but guidelines for individual actions and behaviors based on the exposure risk in the community.

WCCHD said residents should continue to follow any additional requirements from local businesses, venues and schools, regardless of vaccination status or stage. The recommendations for partially or unvaccinated people have not changed. Learn more about the mitigation measures.

“Vaccination remains the proven most effective way to stop the spread of COVID-19 and our best tool to end the pandemic,” said Allison Stewart, chief epidemiologist for WCCHD. “With variant infections on the rise and immunity from previously infected people declining, this is a critical time for our community to protect themselves and their families through vaccination.”

WCCHD’s COVID-19 dashboard will reflect the Orange phase update from Monday, and the dashboard updates will revert back to the daily updates Monday through Friday.
