Famed lobster sandwich shop rolls into Austin for first Texas location

A Maryland-based fast-casual seafood store is making its way into the Texas market, opening its first location in Lone Star State in downtown Austin later this month.
Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls will be available on Thursday, September 30th at its new Austin location at 200 Congress Ave.
Mason’s, which was founded in 2014 and has since grown from its headquarters in Annapolis, Maryland to 13 additional lobster locations in several states, is moving to Texas during a particularly busy time for the company. Indeed, Mason’s business is in full swing and the brand plans to add more Virginia Beach locations this year; Cary, North Carolina; Denver; and Washington, DC
Founder Dan Beck, a self-proclaimed lobster lover for more than two decades, came up with the idea for Mason’s after working as a seafood buyer in the restaurant industry.
With the opening of Mason’s, he hoped to pay tribute to this community, ensuring that Mason’s lobster is brought from the waters off Maine, immediately brought to a local facility for a simple cook, and then cooked according to tradition at Mason’s locations: with “no frills, no whistling and no presumptuousness”, just lemon, butter, mayonnaise and a bit of celery – a recipe that enables the seductive lobster meat to be the star of the show. In essence, Mason’s emphasizes that his food is about being real.
The Austin office is run by franchisee Taher Dhilla, who grew up in New England and frequented lobster-rich Maine before settling in Austin with his family.
According to Dhilla, the concept of Mason – which focuses on the classic New England lobster bun made from 100 percent certified sustainable Maine lobster – should be a welcome addition to the Austin restaurant scene, which has long been seriously missed despite a glimpse or two of luscious lobster rolls.
“Lobster rolls are hard to find here, so we’re excited to bring delicious, authentic lobster rolls to Austin,” says Dhilla. “Seafood lovers can stop by and enjoy sustainably sourced lobster meat from Maine’s waters on a grilled, buttery split-top roll.”
In addition to the classic lobster roll, Mason’s Austin menu offers a range of other seafood rolls, from the Connecticut roll (similar to the classic, except warm, and the lobster tossed in butter) and the awesome lobster BLT roll to the shrimp roll Rolle and the Bar Harbor (one of the famous 1.25 pound lobster rolls, including the hilarious tail meat).
Guests can also opt for lobster and shrimp salads over vegetables rather than on a bun, as well as delicacies such as grilled lobster cheese, lobster mac and cheese, lobster bisque, New England clam chowder, and a variety of side dishes and sips.
