Austin ISD to implement mask mandate

AUSTIN, Texas – Following in the footsteps of other Texas school districts, Austin ISD requires masks to be worn on all campuses.
This is in spite of Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order banning agencies receiving government dollars for mask mandates and a second consolidating executive order banning mask and vaccine mandates.
The AISD School Committee held a special meeting on Monday to get an update on local COVID health data and to discuss safety protocols and how to safely return to face-to-face learning.
According to a poll sent by AISD, 80% of families who responded said they plan to send their child to school wearing a mask.
Both Houston ISD and Dallas ISD currently have similar mandates.
Austin is currently subject to Level 5 COVID-19 guidelines. Under Level 5 guidelines, it is highly recommended that people only make essential travel outside of their home, avoid gatherings entirely, and avoid non-essential travel. It is also recommended that businesses be limited to roadside delivery and collection.
