 100vw, 240px “/><strong>Nashville, TN</strong> – Erica Scutt shot an opening round one under 71, leading the Austin Peay State University women’s golf team to a two-over 290 in the opening round of the Town & Country Invitational hosted by Tennessee State at McCabe Golf Course on Monday.</p>
<p>The governors have a seven-stroke advantage over runner-up Belmont after the first round of the tournament. The Govs and Bruins, along with hosts Tennessee State, will return to the court for the final round on Tuesday.</p>
<p>“We got off to a really hot start as a team,” said district governor’s head coach Jessica Combs. “But during the day the wind picked up and made the playing conditions difficult. We look forward to getting a solid result tomorrow and ending the fall season with a strong end. “</p>
<p>Scutt took the tournament one step ahead and her performance underscored a solid day for the governors roster. Taylor Dedmen fired a straight par 72 and is in second place with Belmont’s Cameron Fish.</p>
<p>Shelby Darnell opened with a one-over 73 and tied fourth, two of them in the lead. Kaley Campbell chipping in a 74 two-over to set Austin Peay’s scoring quartet and is sixth. Riley Cooper rounded out the five-man Govs team at 83.</p>
<p>Kady Foshaug led the individual governors’ rankings with 75, which was good for seventh place. Payton Elkins is eighth on her first round of 76. Maggie Glass is 11th with a 77. </p>
