F1 weekend projected to surpass Austin-Bergstrom travel records

Austin, Texas – Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is warning passengers to prepare for a busy airport this weekend.
The airport says that on Sunday October 24th and Monday October 25th, due to the F1 weekend at the Circuit of the Americas, passengers should be prepared for the main departure times throughout the day.

In addition to racing on the racetrack, there is so much to see and do at COTA. FOX 7 Austins Tierra Neubaum receives details about the event and important information on how to get there.
Departing passengers are advised to do the following to plan ahead and facilitate their travel experience:
- Arrive early – passengers should arrive at the terminal at least 3 hours earlier on all domestic flights and at least 3.5 hours earlier on all international flights
- Plan activities ahead of security check – passengers who need to return a rental car or check in baggage should prepare to allow additional time beyond the recommended arrival time of at least 3 to 3.5 hours
- Use both the lower and the upper curb to set down – from the lower level, passengers can quickly get up to the ticketing and security checkpoints via escalators and elevators
- Pack any F1 promotional items, swag bags, or bulky souvenirs in carry-on baggage, not checked baggage, for faster inspection
- Make sure hand baggage does not contain any prohibited items such as firearms or liquids greater than 3.4 oz.
- Use your mobile phone or online check-in for flights or print boarding passes at a self-service kiosk to avoid the busy lines at ticket desks.
- Contact the airline immediately prior to arrival at the airport to arrange wheelchair service
The first TSA checkpoints and ticket counters will open at 3 a.m., the airport announced.
