THIBODAUX – A Houma Police Department patrolman was killed in a car accident just before 6:00 a.m. Thursday morning
Louisiana State Police Troop C says they were informed of a single vehicle accident on LA 648 (Percy Brown Road) east of the junction with Audubon Avenue in Terrebonne Parish that killed 21 year old Austin Bush of Houma.
Police preliminary investigation revealed that Bush was traveling west on LA Hwy 648 in a tagged 2010 Ford Crown Victoria belonging to the Houma Police Department.
For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle hit a tree trunk near the fog line on LA Hwy 648 heading west, it is said.
The impact resulted in the Ford driving over the east lane and into a drainage area where it was completely submerged in water.
Bush, who was properly buckled up at the time of the impact, was removed from the vehicle by the emergency services.
Bush was transported to the Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.
Houma Police Chief Dana Coleman issued a statement following the fatal crash, the Houma Times reports.
“Our hearts are deeply saddened at the loss of our brother, Officer Austin Bush. Officer Austin Bush had a bright future with our agency where he was sworn to protect and serve our community. Our agency mourns with his family as this Process unfolds and asks you to give them some privacy to digest his tremendous loss. Our prayers and condolences go with his family. ”
According to the police, a routine toxicological sample will be taken and submitted for analysis. This crash is still being investigated.
Troop C investigated 27 fatal accidents with 31 deaths in 2021.
