AUSTIN – What Aneesa Magsi does is crucial. She is a travel nurse who works with COVID-19 patients on a daily basis, and she came here from Canada in the Lone Star State.

She spends 12-hour shifts in an emergency room in Austin several nights a week.

“Working in the emergency room is fast,” said Magsi. “You never know what you’re getting yourself into, but as nurses we’re always there, no matter what.”

As a member of the emergency staff, Magsi works with COVID-19 patients almost every shift.

Your primary responsibility is to help them recover as quickly as possible.

“It can be sad at times and difficult at times, but since I was a little girl I’ve wanted to be a nurse and that’s what I should be doing,” said Magsi.

The Canadian moved from Toronto to Texas in May to work as a travel nurse.

“There is a great demand for travel nurses across the state,” said Magsi. “And the best thing about travel nursing is that you can go out and help where you need to.”

The Lone Star State relies on travel nurses like Magsi to handle as many COVID-19 cases as possible. Hospitals are still seeing high levels of COVID cases.

“Since I come here from Toronto and live in Texas to be able to provide care during this time of need, I am very grateful.”

And she is ready to go and help the next Texans in need.

Magsi created a nursing Instagram page to share her knowledge and experience.
